St George Use of Pupil Premium Grant 2019-20

          1. The amount of the school’s pupil premium funding

The pupil premium funding for 2019- 2020 for St George Catholic College has been provisionally allocated at £169,875.

          2. A summary of the main barriers to educational achievement faced by eligible pupils at  the school

The main barriers to achievement have been identified at St George as:

          1. Low literacy levels preventing students from accessing the curriculum particularly in English
          2. The return of 100% terminal examinations coupled with the new greater knowledge/depth 9-1 GCSEs
          3. Opportunities for instant feedback/support in whole class environment
          4. Attitude towards learning - behaviour for learning and classwork
          5. Attendance and punctuality affecting students’ ability to engage in lessons
          6. Completion of homework to consolidate knowledge and skills covered in lessons
          7. Emotional issues such as behaviour or anger management difficulties
        • Access to resources outside of school and enrichment experiences within school
        • These barriers are not exhaustive and do not solely affect pupil premium students. Strategies to address them will also benefit other pupils.

          3. How the pupil premium allocation is to be spent to address those barriers and the reasons for that approach:

          1. Providing additional KS3 intervention classes and Accelerated Reader package to improve both reading and writing skills
        • Provide small group intervention tuition with subject specialists in English and Maths
        • Employ additional support staff to provide targeted support in lessons
        • Improve behaviour for learning and attendance through a range of engagement opportunities delivered by Progress Leaders, inclusion staff and outside agencies
        • Provide supervised after school Homework club with teacher support
        • Employ ELSA support for emotional support and strategies to improve self-management
